About the Event
On 15 July 2025, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP) hosted an insightful event titled “AI-Powered Design Thinking: Revolutionize Business for the Future”, featuring three distinguished Design Thinking experts from InnoEdge Consulting were Mr. David Chung (Managing Partner), Ms. Tiffany Liu (Senior Partner) and Mr. Paul Lee (Senior Partner).
The event highlighted the transformative potential of AI-powered Design Thinking across critical domains, including community development, international trade, and sustainability. Nearly 200 participants actively participated, making the Q&A session exceptionally engaging and dynamic.
The event was divided into 4 parts:
Part (1) The Evolution of Design Thinking: From DT1.0 to DT3.0 and the Importance of AI Design Thinking for Innovative Organizations and Industries [Details]
Part (2) Hong Kong Case Study: Co-creating Community Design for Sham Shui Po Fabric Market (深水埗新布藝市場) with AI Design Thinking [Details]
Part (3) Global Case Study: Harnessing AI Technologies to Accelerate Design Thinking for SMEs in Global Apparel Markets [Details]
Part (4) Singapore Case Study: Driving Energy Efficiency Through Stakeholder Engagement and Behavioral Change by AI Design Thinking [Details]
Highlights of Part 1: The Evolution of Design Thinking: From DT1.0 to DT3.0 and the Importance of AI Design Thinking for Innovative Organizations and Industries
Mr. David Chung commenced the event by tracing the evolution of Design Thinking, from its foundational iteration (DT 1.0) to the revolutionary advancements of AI-powered Design Thinking (DT 3.0). He highlighted the transformative benefits of integrating AI into Design Thinking:
- Enhanced Speed: AI-powered methodologies improve project execution efficiency by 94%, significantly reducing time-to-market for products and services.
- Precision: User sentiment analysis accuracy has reached an impressive 90%, enabling businesses to identify and address customer needs with unmatched precision.
To further illustrate these points, Mr. Chung referenced a landmark case study: a community development project in Hong Kong executed in December 2024. By employing AI-driven Design Thinking, the team successfully reduced the project timeline from 26 weeks to just 1 week. This achievement showcased the groundbreaking efficiency, low-risk innovation, and competitive edge provided by AI-powered Design Thinking methodologies.

Highlights of Part 2: Hong Kong Case Study: Co-creating Community Design for Sham Shui Po Fabric Market (深水埗新布藝市場) with AI Design Thinking
Mr. David Chung shared an insightful case study on how AI-driven Design Thinking (DT 3.0) was applied to revitalize the Sham Shui Po Fabric Market (New Pang Jai) in Hong Kong. The project, conducted as part of Innovation Jam 2024, demonstrated how AI can address community challenges and accelerate innovation. Through AI-powered methodologies, the project achieved:
- Drastic Time Savings: The project timeline was reduced from 26 weeks (using DT 1.0) to just 1 week, resulting in a 96% improvement in efficiency.
- Actionable Insights: AI-driven social listening technologies achieved 90% accuracy, identifying key customer demands such as the need for eco-friendly fabrics and clarity on fabric origins.
Mr. Chung emphasized the collaborative nature of the project, which involved university students, social workers, volunteers, and teachers. He underscored the significance of the initiative, highlighting how AI-powered Design Thinking not only addressed declining visitor numbers but also reinforced the market’s cultural and economic importance. This case study exemplified how AI can transform traditional industries for modern demands.

Highlights of Part 3: Global Case Study: Harnessing AI Technologies to Accelerate Design Thinking for SMEs in Global Apparel Markets
Mr. Paul Lee provided an in-depth exploration of how AI-powered Design Thinking can empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to thrive in international markets. His session focused on a case study involving an Indonesian SME promoting Batik, a traditional textile art form, to a global audience. Through AI-driven design research, the SME was able to:
- Identify key target markets where emotional responses to Batik were overwhelmingly positive.
- Expand its sales channels from a single country to multiple communities worldwide.
Mr. Lee underscored the significance of this breakthrough, highlighting how AI-enabled insights allowed the SME to overcome traditional market barriers and achieve exponential growth on an international scale.

Highlights of Part 4: Singapore Case Study: Driving Energy Efficiency Through Stakeholder Engagement and Behavioral Change by AI Design Thinking
Ms. Tiffany Liu concluded the event with a powerful session on sustainability, showcasing how AI-powered Design Thinking can drive energy efficiency and cost savings. Her case study focused on a project in Singapore aimed at transforming energy consumption habits within the property management sector. Key outcomes of the initiative included:
- Engaging stakeholders to foster behavioral changes in energy usage.
- Achieving significant cost savings in energy consumption across both business and public buildings.
Ms. Liu highlighted the dual impact of this approach: not only did it reduce operational costs, but it also made a meaningful contribution to sustainability goals, demonstrating how AI-powered Design Thinking can create value for both businesses and the environment.

Conclusion
The event successfully showcased the immense potential of AI-powered Design Thinking to revolutionize business practices across diverse industries. From accelerating project timelines to identifying lucrative global markets and driving sustainability, the speakers demonstrated how this cutting-edge approach can empower businesses to stay ahead in an increasingly complex and evolving landscape. The enthusiastic participation of nearly 200 attendees underscored the growing interest in leveraging AI to innovate and solve complex challenges.
