Part 1: Overview of the 3-Day Program
On March 14th, 15th, and 22nd, 2025, a group of outstanding innovation leaders from cities across China gathered in Hong Kong to participate in a milestone learning experience. This program was led by Mr. David Chung, Dean of the Design Thinking Academy China, along with two experienced instructors, Ms. Tiffany Liu and Mr. Paul Lee. Together, they demonstrated the depth of expertise and leadership of the professional team.
The 7th AI-Enhanced Design Thinking Facilitation Course introduced participants to an innovative approach—innovation project management simulation—designed to prepare them for real-world challenges. The program focused on cultivating five essential competencies for innovation project facilitators and advisors, enabling participants to lead high-impact initiatives with confidence and precision.
Through immersive learning and hands-on practice, participants were equipped with strategies, tactics, and execution frameworks to facilitate innovation and drive meaningful transformations within their organizations.
Part 2: Key Highlights of the 3-Day Program
During this intensive 3-day program, participants immersed themselves in simulation-based learning to master the following core competencies:
(1) Innovation Strategy Design: Crafting Purposeful Challenge Statements
- Participants developed the ability to design well-balanced challenge statements that effectively align user needs with organizational goals.
- These statements serve as the foundation for innovation initiatives, ensuring clarity, alignment, and focus to address the most pressing and impactful challenges.
(2) Innovation Project Tactics Development: Managing Team Dynamics and Fostering Team Morale
- Participants learned advanced techniques to manage team dynamics and create collaborative, high-performing environments effectively. Key skills include:
- Managing common team challenges, including monopolizers, passive observers, overly busy members, soloists, and overly analytical contributors.
- Sustaining team morale, motivation, and engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
- Keeping teams aligned and focused on project objectives to achieve optimal outcomes.
(3) Innovation Project Execution Skills: Preparing Materials and Delivering Effective Sessions
- Through hands-on training, participants mastered the preparation and facilitation of key Design Thinking activities, including:
- Stakeholder mapping
- Design research and findings analysis
- Persona creation
- Customer journey development
- Idea generation and prioritization
- Prototyping
- User feedback analysis
Part 3: Transforming 3-Day Classroom Practices to 6-Week Real-world Execution
The program emphasized applying classroom learning to real-world challenges, enabling participants to implement their skills in practical scenarios immediately. In the upcoming 6 weeks, participants will lead their real-world innovation projects within their organizations. The execution phase involved:
- Project Team Formation:
- Participants formed cross-functional project teams within their organizations, ensuring diverse perspectives and expertise in tackling innovation challenges.
- Facilitators guided participants on team-building strategies to foster collaboration, trust, and shared ownership of the project outcomes.
- Design Research in the Real World:
- Participants conducted real-world design research to gather insights directly from users and stakeholders.
- They applied techniques such as interviews, observations, and surveys to understand user pain points, needs, and aspirations deeply.
- The findings from this research were analyzed and synthesized to inform the subsequent stages of the innovation process.
- Fresh Idea Generation:
- Teams explored creative solutions, leveraging insights from research to refine ideas and develop innovative strategies.
- Prototyping and Testing:
- Teams created prototypes to test their ideas and solutions rapidly.
- User feedback was incorporated iteratively to improve and fine-tune the prototypes.
- Outcome Delivery:
- By the end of the 6-week project execution phase, participants delivered actionable solutions, frameworks, or prototypes that addressed critical challenges within their organizations.
- These outcomes were designed to be practical, user-centered, and aligned with organizational goals.
The 6-week execution phase allowed participants to put their skills into practice, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application while demonstrating their capability as innovation leaders.
Part 4: How AI Empowers Design Thinking Facilitators to Enhance the Innovation Effectiveness
This program integrated AI tools to empower Design Thinking facilitators, enabling them to lead innovation projects with greater efficiency, precision, and creativity. These cutting-edge technologies supported facilitators in streamlining processes, generating insights, and driving impactful outcomes:
- Social Listening: Facilitators help the project team analyze user sentiment, trends, and behaviors from large datasets, providing macro-level insights that refine focus areas and enhance problem understanding.
- GPT: Facilitators help the project team to automate the analysis of qualitative data, identify patterns, map stakeholders, to generate actionable insights and to craft refined problem statements.
- DALL-E: Facilitators help the project team create high-quality visuals, such as personas, journey maps, and concept prototypes, from text descriptions, bringing abstract ideas to life visually.
- Stormz: Facilitators help the project team to conduct real-time, structured collaboration during brainstorming, idea generation, and prioritization, ensuring ideation sessions are more inclusive and accessible.
- AICG: Facilitators help the project team to transform 2D concepts into dynamic 3D prototypes, enabling interactive and immersive testing and feedback sessions to refine solutions.
- Miro: Facilitators help the project team streamline workflows, brainstorming, prototyping, and stakeholder alignment using this comprehensive collaboration platform, which supports every stage of the Design Thinking process.
By leveraging these AI tools, facilitators help the project team to enhance their ability to collaborate, uncover insights, and deliver user-centered solutions effectively. This integration of AI into the facilitation process makes innovation projects more efficient, impactful, and transformative.
Part 5: A Transformative Experience for Innovation Leaders
The 7th AI-Enhanced Design Thinking Facilitation Course has set a new benchmark for professional excellence, combining cutting-edge simulation practices with actionable project execution strategies. This program is a platform for innovation leaders to elevate their expertise, expand their influence, and become catalysts for meaningful change within their organizations.
As of today, only 49 certified Design Thinking facilitators have achieved this distinction in the China region, making this program a unique opportunity for participants to join an elite community of innovation leaders.
