DesignThinkers Academy Hong Kong (DTA HK) was invited by the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) to co-organize a one-hour seminar on Service Design in Social Innovation. The seminar was held on December 10, 2024, at the DX Design Hub of the HKDC headquarters. It provided valuable insights into how design thinking can be leveraged for social innovation, offering practical examples from global and local contexts.
The seminar commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Wallace Lam, Director of Strategic Development at HKDC, who set the stage for a deep dive into the impact of design thinking on social innovation. The first presentation was delivered by Mr. David Chung, Dean of DTA China. Mr. Chung provided a comprehensive overview of design thinking and its application to social innovation, emphasizing its role in addressing complex societal challenges through creative and human-centered approaches.
Following Mr. Chung, Mr. Jeroen van der Weide, Dean of DesignThinkers Academy Global, shared insights from a real-world project in Amsterdam. Ms. Tiffany Liu, Lead of Program Development at DTA HK, then took the stage to discuss her involvement in the redevelopment of the Kwun Tong Yue Man Hawker Bazaar. Mr. Paul Lee, also a Lead of Program Development at DTA HK, presented an award-winning case study on Environmental Enhancement through Innovative Drainage Services implemented by the Hong Kong government.
